Door-to-Door Fundraising Helps Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) Fund Research that Saves Millions of LivesMay 8, 2015
More than 78,512 people live in Canada with HIV (PHAC 2013). Approximately 24,300 HIV+ people have died in Canada since the outbreak of the disease during the early 1980s. Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) is Canada’s only independent charitable foundation dedicated to eliminating HIV/AIDS throughout Canada and around the world. We proudly help CANFAR fund research, raise awareness and work together to end HIV/AIDS.
At the start of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Canada, three Toronto friends wanted to raise money to find a cure. They combined their entrepreneurial expertise in the hospitality industry to rally support. Since then, leading research scientists, influential philanthropists and even international banks have given generously to help CANFAR achieve significant Canadian research breakthroughs, many of which keep millions of people alive today.
While CANFAR has been able to count on legacy donors throughout the past two decades, it’s important that CANFAR continue to reach out to the community, raise awareness and find new longterm donor opportunities. Door-to-door fundraising hasn’t been tried in years, so CANFAR wanted to bring in fundraising support. CANFAR approached Globalfaces Direct to test a small campaign. CANFAR was able to raise awareness and increase recurring donations. This helped the foundation continue to pursue leading research and work towards ending HIV/AIDS around the world. CANFAR and Globalfaces Direct continue to work together on monthly giving programs.
